Every journey begins with that first step!

A Friend

FRIENDS. …Remember when friends were the people you called and talked with, visited with, shared memories with, spent time together doing things you both enjoyed, talking, laughing, acting silly, helping each other through those dark times, sharing the joyful times!

That used to be the meaning of a FRIEND!

But in today’s society, our kids sure miss out on a lot, well honestly just about all generations do, when it comes to a FRIEND.

We seem to be a society hooked on social media….. and the results, we have lost the meaning of true conversation and friendship.

Modern technology has taken a lot of that away… facebook, twitter, snapchat, text message, messenger, and the list goes on and on…    They all are great things in and of themselves, no doubt.

But when a person says… ” I have 237 facebook friends”, well good, if that’s what makes you happy?

But how many of them do you really share time with as a FRIEND????

A real friend, like a friend, used to be, not somebody that you socialize with via social media.

Or text with constantly while in the same house, or worse yet same room.

Instead of eye to eye contact and spoken conversation.

Something to ponder over, ain’t it?

So why don’t ya’ll think about using that phone for calling a FRIEND?

Try chatting via your voice, make plans to have lunch together, a shopping spree, or just a visit with each other over a cup of coffee or iced tea?

Go make some real memories with a FRIEND, instead of reading a post and hitting like.

Don’t you think that would really mean more?

How many of us truly remember, who’s facebook comment we liked last week?  I sure don’t…..

But I sure do remember who I spent real time with.

Just food for thought, cause you see to this old-fashioned woman…

Nothing beats real friendship in person… ever!

Those Ol’ Mom & Pop Places

Do ya’ll remember back in the day, when going out to eat was a little mom and pop place?   Long before all the chain restaurants took over every city and town.  You know what I’m talking about, I hope!

You walk in and they say “Well hey there Christine, how you doing, your usual?”   Those little places are fading so very fast.

Growing up, there was this little place like that…. it was called Caesars.  I never asked how the Bramlett’s came up with the name, but it was a true picture of the mom and pop place!!!

I wish I could tell you the image above is of that cafe, but unfortunately, it’s not.  Times have changed, they have gone on home to heaven, and the store went with them so to speak.  But, oh back in the day, it was the best place to go.  Actually, in our little community it was the only place to go; but oh how we loved it!!!

You could stop by,  ya’ll know each other and the family members by name.  You’d hear…  Gary, get that hay up?     Connie, how’s the kids?       Hoyt that sure was a good sermon Sunday, wasn’t it?    Times sure have changed,  I miss those days.

And oh my, Mrs. Bramlett sure could cook and bake.  She would make the best biscuits this side of heaven.  Everything was from scratch, and you could taste the love in her food.  And how many were in that kitchen cooking each day, just one, her the entire day. They would open really early in the morning and not close till the evening, 6 days a week.  Closed on Sunday’s of course, Church and a day of rest!!!

Why you could get some gas and oil, have a bite to eat, grab a soda and candy bar, or some good old country housewares, all in one stop.

But most important of all…. you would get a great big dose of friendship and blessings, a friendly slap on the back, a good firm handshake or a hug, even a prayer here and there!

I hope you had the pleasure of growing up and having stores and cafes like that in your own little part of the world.  A true honest to goodness little place, but where the biggest part of fellowship, food and just good old stories and laughter would take place!!

Times sure have changed….

I sure miss those times….. those were the days!!!

A Smile

Have ya’ll ever stopped to think what a great impact a smile has on others?

I mean just look at that adorable little face and that cute smile, how the eyes shine.

A true honest to goodness….SMILE!!!

We all need to do a lot more smiling. It’s the one thing, that no matter what street, or community, or town, or continent you live in, we all have that in common.

We all have a smile!!!!

Yeah sure… some people have beautiful straight white teeth, some not so much, some missing a few, or a glimpse of silver caps in there, some no teeth at all..

A smile makes your whole face light up when it’s real….

A smile says hello, or howdy, in any and every other language without saying a word.

See, it’s universal!!!

It doesn’t matter if you’re brown, white, black, pink, purple or covered in poke-a-dots….

If you’re from Asia, Europe, Russia, America,  Egypt or South America, or wherever you may be…..

A smile still speaks volumes.

So when you meet people, give em a smile.

A real honest to goodness…. eye twinkling…. feels good all the way to your toes smile.

I bet they’ll smile right back at ya…. and if they don’t, well bless their heart….  you gave them a smile anyway.

Oh, and if there ain’t nobody around, well just go find your mirror,

stand in front of it,

close your eyes…..

then just open them up with a great big beautiful smile on, and say…..

Child Support for Kittens

cat n kitten

Last week we stopped at this little country store…. there was this sweet older lady working as a cashier.

It was a comical stop!

Hubby stopped for a cup of coffee, poured it just to find out it was cold. He told her their coffee is cold, her reply.… “Oh hon we know it, we just brew it, the warmers broke, so folks just bring it up here and we warm it in the microwave.”

He comes out to tell me about it and drink his coffee, the little lady comes out, looking just as country as cornbread, to sit on the bench.

She says, ” Did ya’ll see a cat out here, she’s always here?”   Hubby…. “no, I haven’t seen one”

Lady.… ” Well she has to be here, somebody let her out a few weeks ago, and well, ol Tom got her pregnant right off the bat, then he went and got himself run over out there on the highway a week later.

So see, now were the grandparents and gotta take care of them grandbabies…. that child support ya know for our babies.

Daddy’s gone, so gotta raise them, babies.”

I’m so glad, I was sitting in the car with the window just down a bit,

cause I burst out laughing….

I absolutely love peace and quiet…. when people come to visit, they always say.. “It’s so peaceful here.”

We have a nephew, Brandon…. bless him, rest his soul…. he loved to visit often… He would always say…” Aunt Christine, I love coming here, it’s always so peaceful, I could stay here forever.” I so miss him, but I still hear those words often in the stillness.

I realize for a huge part of the world, they probably prefer the hustle and bustle, the noise, music, TV, games, etc. And all that’s great if it is what you enjoy….there is no right or wrong way with this.

But for me, just pure peace and quiet, that’s my preference!

The only thing I hear right now is the sound of the clock ticking here in the study. For me, a quiet morning, coffee time with God, and just pure peace as I get my day started.

Can you hear the peace and quite?…………………………….

The stillness of the moment …………………………..

The serenity??

No….. oh bless you…… find a moment or two to try it sometime……… you may find you really like it!!!
