What happened to “Merry Christmas”?

by Christine

Do you remember when Christmas time came around, the greetings and the words used by most everybody was simply “Merry Christmas”?

What happened?

Today, you hear people say “Happy Holidays” or “Seasons Greetings”.

Or a lot of times when you see Christmas written somewhere it is Xmas……… (really, are you kidding me)

Where did we go wrong?   What on earth possessed us to take Christ out of Christmas?

Why have the majority of people in this world lost their mind, turned to the world, and their hearts turned cold and selfish and unfeeling?   Oh my, simply oh my!

My heart hurts for these newer generations that are raised by liberals, socialists, and nonbelievers; and there are so many, oh so many… how very sad.

I think the time of the true meaning of Christmas has sort of ended with my generation, and my children’s generation.  I pray that some of us will stay true to God and Christmas and continue to pass it on to our future children and grandchildren.  Were losing the Christ in Christmas, and that’s a crying shame, an honest to goodness crying shame.

Today’s society seems more wrapped up in life and the what’s in it for me mentality.  For example, I’ve heard the words “Why should I spend my money on them, they don’t get me anything?”

People wake up!!!!

Christmas is not about me mentality.   Haven’t you ever read the Bible, don’t you know the Lord says it is more blessed to give than receive?    That doesn’t mean costly gifts and going in debt.  It can be something as simple as a card, or sharing a few minutes with a passerby, stopping to share a smile and a “Merry Christmas.”,  or a hug, or a visit with your neighbor.

Christmas used to be simple and focused on the true meaning of Christmas,  Jesus being born, the star over Bethlehem, the shepherds guarding their sheep, the three wise men that followed that star to see baby Jesus and brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, to worship Him.

Why because Jesus was the true meaning of Christmas, the Angels foretold it and the people believed and followed.

So why on earth if Christmas began with Christ being born and those first gifts from the wise men given to Jesus born in the manger in a lowly stable, why on earth are people taking CHRIST out of Christmas?

We all so need to ponder this so very badly.  I make a point to say “Merry Christmas”   I always have, I always will.  It doesn’t matter if I’m in my fifties or my nineties, it will always be “Merry Christmas” to me.

It breaks my heart, I greet just about everybody I see or talk on the phone with and the words I share are always “Merry Christmas”.

But do you know only about 2 out of 10 will say ‘Merry Christmas” back?   I have heard Seasons Greetings. I’ve heard Happy Holidays.  I’ve heard you too.   And I’ve even heard bye, or worse yet silence, and the phone being hung up, or the person just walking away.

I so wish this country would turn back to God, and the true meaning and Spirit of Christmas, not just for now, but for every day of the year.

Christmas is supposed to be a joyous occasion celebrating the birth of Jesus, with peace and goodwill to all mankind everywhere.   Every person, every nation, everywhere.

I pray that each and every one of you remembers this and shares in the true meaning of Christmas, and offer kindness and goodwill to all, and celebrate Christmas with peace, love,  and joy for all!

Merry Christmas to one and all, wherever you may be, I pray you have a very Merry Christmas!
