Those Ol’ Mom & Pop Places

by Christine

cafe

Do ya’ll remember back in the day, when going out to eat was a little mom and pop place?   Long before all the chain restaurants took over every city and town.  You know what I’m talking about, I hope!

You walk in and they say “Well hey there Christine, how you doing, your usual?”   Those little places are fading so very fast.

Growing up, there was this little place like that…. it was called Caesars.  I never asked how the Bramlett’s came up with the name, but it was a true picture of the mom and pop place!!!

I wish I could tell you the image above is of that cafe, but unfortunately, it’s not.  Times have changed, they have gone on home to heaven, and the store went with them so to speak.  But, oh back in the day, it was the best place to go.  Actually, in our little community it was the only place to go; but oh how we loved it!!!

You could stop by,  ya’ll know each other and the family members by name.  You’d hear…  Gary, get that hay up?     Connie, how’s the kids?       Hoyt that sure was a good sermon Sunday, wasn’t it?    Times sure have changed,  I miss those days.

And oh my, Mrs. Bramlett sure could cook and bake.  She would make the best biscuits this side of heaven.  Everything was from scratch, and you could taste the love in her food.  And how many were in that kitchen cooking each day, just one, her the entire day. They would open really early in the morning and not close till the evening, 6 days a week.  Closed on Sunday’s of course, Church and a day of rest!!!

Why you could get some gas and oil, have a bite to eat, grab a soda and candy bar, or some good old country housewares, all in one stop.

But most important of all…. you would get a great big dose of friendship and blessings, a friendly slap on the back, a good firm handshake or a hug, even a prayer here and there!

I hope you had the pleasure of growing up and having stores and cafes like that in your own little part of the world.  A true honest to goodness little place, but where the biggest part of fellowship, food and just good old stories and laughter would take place!!

Times sure have changed….

I sure miss those times….. those were the days!!!
